If you live in Prichard, here's where the city's budget fight stands. Mayor Carletta Davis says some Public Services employees have stopped working, citing low pay and heavy workloads. She's asking residents to press the City Council to pass her proposed budget.

Davis says her administration inherited an unbalanced budget, unpaid bills and short-staffed departments. Her plan covers pay, staffing, equipment and supplies, and the required public hearing is done. The council hasn't voted. State law set a Sept. 20 deadline for the 2027 budget, and the current year's budget carries over when none passes.

“Our employees need support. Our residents need services. Our city needs action.”

Davis said the Fire Chief told the council two weeks ago that 14 firefighters had left and others were considering leaving. Those figures are from the mayor's post.
