- ➤ Habitat for Humanity of Southwest Alabama received a $250,000 grant from Verizon to repair storm-damaged homes using FORTIFIED building techniques. The grant under Verizon’s Disaster Resilience initiative—designed to boost storm recovery—will help speed up repairs for local families. WKRG News 5
- ➤ Community members gathered at Hackmeyer Park for a candlelight vigil to remember Charlie Kirk—organizer Deidre Looney and speakers stressed that unity and prayer help overcome political divisions and honor his memory. WKRG News 5
- ➤ A plane pulled a banner over the Gulf of America near Orange Beach that honored the late Charlie Kirk with a message from Psalm 116:15—Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his faithful servants. Kirk was killed on Wednesday in front of a crowd at Utah Valley University and his wife vowed to continue his Turning Point USA mission. 1819 News

- ➤ Coastal Alabama Community College recorded a 17% enrollment increase and became the second fastest growing community college in the state, serving six counties in southwest Alabama—President Aaron Milner said its new academic programs and redesigned advising model drove historic gains. - ➤ Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced last week a modernized online opinions database—featuring historic opinions from 1894 to 1980—that now gives public officials and residents easier access to legal guidance. Gulf Coast Media

- ➤ WKRG News 5 is partnering with Panini’s Senior Bowl to deliver top high school football coverage along the Gulf Coast—this week the network honors Paul Crane on its Senior Bowl Spotlight. Crane, a Vigor High School alum who played under Coach Bear Bryant at Alabama and helped the New York Jets win Super Bowl III, remains celebrated in local sports halls of fame. WKRG News 5
- ➤ The Alma Bryant Hurricanes, a co-ed cheerleading team of 21 led by Head Coach Lindsay Miller and Assistant Coach Jenny Morgan, were named WKRG News 5 Cheer Squad of the Week after several members earned UCA All-American honors and Pin It Forward awards. The team, which was also named Game Day Champions at the UCA Summer Camp in Auburn, is training for AHSAA and UCA competitions in October — a sign of their strong performance. WKRG News 5
- ➤ No. 24 Auburn beat South Alabama 31 to 15 during Homecoming Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium and moved to a 3-0 record. Coach Hugh Freeze led the team with running back Jeremiah Cobb—who ran for 119 yards—and the offense as they will face No. 13 Oklahoma next week at 2:30 p.m. on ABC. 1819 News
- ➤ Daphne beat Foley 38—7 in the Week 4 Gulf Coast Media Game of the Week as quarterback Christian Segar and senior receiver CJ Gardner built an early lead. Head coach Kenny King said new strength coach Rick Rosano helped the team finish games better, and Daphne will play Baker next week while Foley prepares for a road matchup with Mary G. Montgomery.
