  • Orange Beach will host the 5th Annual Freedom Fest on Sept 20—21 as families enjoy live music, food vendors, classic cars and patriotic booths while children have fun in a Kids’ Zone that benefits the OBPD benevolent fund. The festival will also feature motorcycle and Jeep rallies, a collectible firearms show and free shuttles—ensuring visitors have easy access to all events.  Gulf Coast Media

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Claire’s, a popular teen and tween retailer, said its North American business will close 291 stores after a $104 million sale to Ames Watson; Alabama closures include shops at Grand River (Leeds), Decatur Mall, and Outlet Collection Foley. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy before securing the deal.  AL.com

SPORTS NEWS

  • St. Michael overcame a nine-point deficit in the third quarter to beat W.S. Neal 43-29 on Friday night—keeping the Cardinals undefeated with a 3-0 record. The team will host Satsuma on Sept. 12 at 7 p.m.  Gulf Coast Media
  • High school sports on Friday saw Saraland beat Gulf Shores 43-14 with Jamison Roberts throwing for 290 yards and five touchdowns while Theodore edged McGill-Toolen 27-10 behind Kendrick Able's 207 rushing yards and two scores. Jackson's Aggies posted a shutout, Mobile Christian won 42-6, Vigor triumphed 50-0, Leroy edged McIntosh 42-26 and Clarke County blanked Central-Hayneville 37-0.  The Call News
  • No.21 Alabama recorded its first win of the season with a 73—0 shutout of Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday night at home—veteran receiver Germie Bernard and perfect passer Ty Simpson led a defense that swarmed the field. Alabama will host Wisconsin on September 13 at 11 a.m.  1819 News
  • Bayside quarterback Davis Barnett and running back Caid Lyons led the Admirals to a 42-13 win over Orange Beach on Friday night—improving on a past loss and following a home win over Marbury. The team stands 2-1 this season and will host Monroe County on Sept. 12.  Gulf Coast Media
