  • Fairhope-grown Christmas trees are helping Marines and their families celebrate the holidays as a USDA-funded project donated over 200+ trees from local farms to a Marine base. Researchers are using the trial to modernize production and lower costs.  Gulf Coast Media

  • Bay Landscaping was named 2025 Mobile Chamber Small Business of the Year after being selected from 11 finalists at a luncheon on Friday, Dec. 12 at the Renaissance Mobile Riverview Plaza Hotel. CULTURE NEWS

  • St. Paul’s Episcopal Church — located at 506 N. Pine Street — will launch its newly installed Noack Organ Opus 170 with a free concert starring Grammy-winning organist Dr. Isabelle Demers at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 4. EDUCATION NEWS

  • U.S. Sen. Katie Britt was honored with an honorary degree by the University of South Alabama yesterday. She delivered the commencement address to the class of 2025, sharing advice on resilience and the importance of community + mutual respect during setbacks.  1819 News
  • Baldwin Preparatory Academy received a $5,000 grant from the Rachael Ray Foundation and NRAEF ProStart program to upgrade culinary and hospitality training at its student operated Blaze Bistro. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Foley halted construction at the new BJ's Wholesale Club site on Dec. 5 after inspectors observed clay-laden stormwater moving toward local waterways near a drainage ditch on South Juniper Street (requirements mandate stronger erosion controls).   • At a breakfast meeting on Dec. 3, local conservation leaders approved a 10-year coastal plan titled 'The Waters We Share' that sets projects for coastal resilience, water quality, tourism, and habitat restoration through 2035 (balancing growth with environmental stewardship).  Gulf Coast Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Four companies, including RJK Holdings, were awarded licenses for Alabama’s first medical cannabis dispensaries, with RJK planning to open locations in Mobile and Daphne next year. The board will certify trained doctors (sixty so far) after Jan. 8, with dispensary openings expected by March.  NBC 15

  • Nick Hampton from Gulf Shores High School will make history as the first player selected for the Military Appreciation Bowl in Frisco, Texas on Sunday, Dec. 21. He signed with Troy University on Dec. 3 after recording 36 receptions, 512 yards, and seven touchdowns this season.  Gulf Coast Media
