  • A TerrainHopper, an off-road mobility vehicle, was donated by the Alabama Mountain Lake Tourist Association to Joe Wheeler State Park to boost access for visitors with physical challenges. CULTURE NEWS

  • Local ballet studies in Mobile and Baldwin County are preparing a new version of The Nutcracker this December. The production will feature fresh twists and extra surprises to delight audiences.  Lagniappe Daily
  • Mystique, an 11-year-old melanistic Amur leopard, has arrived at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo where she will help educate visitors about endangered species. Guests can see her during zoo hours from 9 am + 4 pm daily.  Gulf Coast Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Government Plaza held its annual tree lighting yesterday in its atrium with a choir from Murphy High School performing and Santa and Mrs Claus accepting gift requests — an event that saw county commissioner Connie Hudson stress the importance of family and community this holiday season.  NBC 15
  • Mobile County Commission denied Waste Management's plan to expand the Chastang Landfill in North Mobile County Monday morning. The request would have raised the daily waste limit from 1,725 to 5,000 tons and expanded the counties served (including Baldwin and Escambia), with two commissioners voting no and one abstaining.  NBC 15
  • Austal USA held the keel laying ceremony today for the first Heritage-class Offshore Patrol Cutter built at its Mobile shipyard. Pickering is part of a $3.3 billion contract for up to 11 vessels that will boost the Coast Guard’s offshore missions, including law enforcement & search and rescue.  UTV 44

  • Fairhope native Riley Leonard made his NFL debut for the Colts after Daniel Jones was injured in Week 14's game, throwing 18-of-29 for 145 yards + scoring his first touchdown on a 6-yard run as the team lost 36-19 to the Jaguars.  Gulf Coast Media
  • University of Louisiana at Lafayette will square off against University of Delaware at Hancock Whitney Stadium (Mobile) on Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the 27th 68 Ventures Bowl; the game will air on ESPN.  1819 News
