ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Today, a building next to Rodgers BBQ on Saint Stephens Road caught fire and sent smoke into the area, prompting Mobile Fire-Rescue Department to quickly control the flames and keep the restaurant mostly unharmed while a nearby mechanic shop was lost. The restaurant closed for four hours for inspections and then reopened—customers returned and service resumed at normal hours.  The Mobile Rundown

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Airbus said it applied a safety fix to nearly all of the roughly 6,000 A320 family planes affected by a flight control issue after an alert on Nov. 28 due to risks from intense solar radiation. The company said (from its Toulouse office) that fewer than 100 aircraft still will receive modifications so they can return to service soon.  AL.com

CRIME NEWS

  • Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama is hosting a Christmas ornament event today between 4:00 and 7:00 p.m. at 2121 Rev. Abraham Woods Jr. Boulevard N—families of violent crime victims will place homemade ornaments on a tree and share stories of their loved ones.  1819 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mobile Ballet will expand its holiday season with productions in Mobile and Baldwin, starting with an abbreviated 'The Nutcracker Suite' on Dec. 6 at the Coastal Alabama Community College campus in Bay Minette. The season continues with full-length shows at the Saenger Theatre, a holiday brunch at the Battle House Hotel, and student performances on Dec. 5 and Dec. 18—bringing live ballet closer to local families.  Gulf Coast Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Tomorrow, student-athletes from St. Paul’s Episcopal School will announce which colleges they will join to play sports such as volleyball, softball, baseball, tennis, golf and football, with choices including the University of Southern Mississippi, Huntingdon College, Chipola College, Loyola University New Orleans, the University of South Alabama, Auburn University, the University of Oregon and Georgia State. The athletes include Bennett Boulo, Kendall Dougherty, Tate Farrell, Livy Ferguson, Buddy Fleming, Emma Jane Hamilton, Tate Johnston, Anthony Jones, John Stowers and Ava Voris.  UTV 44

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mobile has revised Mardi Gras horse rules after a 2024 incident led to updated safety measures for riders and horses. City staff will check horse health on parade day instead of requiring early vet certificates, and riders under 16 must wear helmets — officials will assist participants over the next two months.  NBC 15
  • The Army & Austal USA have formalized a partnership that expands job interview opportunities for soldiers preparing to leave service. The agreement builds on the PaYs program by linking military training to work in fields such as IT, cybersecurity, and manufacturing.  The Mobile Rundown

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Monday, nearly 30 Mobile bars and restaurants hosted Dining Out for Life on World AIDS Day, where funds raised supported South Alabama Cares in maintaining HIV prevention programs amid federal budget cuts. Local officials warned that reduced HIV healthcare navigation services may leave rural communities at risk + underscored the need for continued public support.  NBC 15

SPORTS NEWS

  • ESPN's Paul Finebaum said No.10 Alabama could miss the College Football Playoff if they lose by a 10-point margin to Georgia in the SEC Championship on Saturday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta - he explained that a loss could crowd the field even though Alabama is usually a playoff lock.  1819 News
  • The AHSAA Super 7 State Football Championship games will be played from December 3 to December 5 at Protective Stadium in Birmingham and will be broadcast live on Alabama Public Television and the NFHS Network. Thompson High School will defend its title in the Class 7A final against Opelika, which will make its first finals appearance (Coach Mark Freeman enters his eighth consecutive championship game).  1819 News
  • Former NFL quarterback and current St. Michael Catholic head coach Philip Rivers was named a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2026 last week from a field of 128 nominees. He is one of 26 semifinalists and one of three quarterbacks still in contention — joining Drew Brees and Eli Manning.  Gulf Coast Media
  • Two local football legends—former NFL players Philip Rivers and Willie Anderson—are semifinalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026, adding extra excitement to the fall season along the Gulf Coast. Rivers, who tossed over 63,000 passing yards in his career, and Anderson, noted for his strong play on the offensive line, have deep ties in our local sports community.  The Mobile Rundown
