- ➤ Black Friday is coming up in Alabama and shoppers are expected to start holiday spending early from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday as retailers blend online deals with curbside pickup options. The Alabama Retail Association reported that state consumers spent about $18 billion last season (a significant boost) while national forecasts predict spending will top one trillion dollars by Christmas. - ➤ On Friday night, Saraland defeated Benjamin Russell 38 to 21 in the Class 6A semifinals as quarterback Jamison Roberts passed for 300 yards and scored multiple touchdowns. The Spartans advanced to the state championship game against No 1 Clay-Chalkville and will face them Friday at 7 p.m. at Protective Stadium in Birmingham. The Call News
- ➤ On Friday night, Vigor beat Williamson 28-21 in the Class 5A semifinals with Sammy Dunn rallying his team and avenging an earlier loss—Vigor will face Moody Thursday at 7 p.m. while Jackson won 44-23 over St. Michael in the Class 4A rematch and Maplesville crushed Leroy 59-18 in the Class 1A semifinal, setting up state title games later next week.
