  • Escapology opened its new escape room venue at Eastern Shore Centre on Friday, Nov. 21 at 3:30 p.m.—marking its third Alabama location—with a grand opening event that featured a ribbon cutting, confetti, and guided tours of themed rooms. CULTURE NEWS

  • Yesterday, the University of North Alabama’s marching band performed at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade after being selected last year from over 100 applicants. The band wore purple, white and glitter and marched through Manhattan—representing Alabama and the Fourth District.  AL.com

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Three Baldwin County retirees formed the Coal Ash Action Group to call for the removal of 22 million cubic yards of coal ash from an Alabama Power site next to the Mobile River as shown in the new documentary Sallie's Ashes. The film shows how their fight — which aims to protect the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta — has drawn local attention while Alabama Power said it will follow state and federal environmental rules.  AL.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Sen. Katie Britt and U.S. Sen. Cory Booker are working together on the NIH Act — it will give $73.4 million each year for seven years to help research that lowers maternal deaths and improves care for women. Britt also backs the Rural Obstetrics Readiness Act to aid rural hospitals and a bill to make adoption safer.  1819 News

  • Fish River Tree Farm in central Baldwin County is preparing for the holiday season by planning festive activities for families such as a free train ride, a live nativity scene, camel and pony rides, and occasional visits from Santa. The farm (located at 13982 Woodhaven Dairy Road E in Summerdale) will be open daily until Dec. 22 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Gulf Coast Media
