  • A local business is hosting a Thanksgiving giveaway when Pope Tax and Accounting LLC will give free turkeys to local families tomorrow at 10 a.m. at (940 Schillinger Road North, Suite 5) in Mobile, and owner Melissa Pope said the event is meant to brighten the holiday season for those in need.  WKRG News 5
  • Cozy Brown’s Kitchen in Prichard will host a free Thanksgiving dinner on November 27th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 4395 Saint Stephens Road, and the event will serve traditional favorites to support those in need during challenging times.  WKRG News 5
  • The City of Mobile’s Events Department and the Office of Small Business Development will host the Small Business Saturday: Outdoor Holiday Market on Saturday, Nov. 29 from noon to 4 p.m. at Mardi Gras Park—109 Government Street, where local vendors will offer unique Christmas gifts.  UTV 44

  • The Mobile Chamber held its 11th annual State of the Economy on Wednesday and presented awards for Manufacturer of the Year to MYER Companies and Innovator of the Year to 68 Ventures. U.S. Chamber official Tom Wickham highlighted policies aimed at boosting economic growth—while Chamber President Bradley Byrne noted that local firms are expanding and creating more job opportunities.  1819 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mobile-born band The Red Clay Strays won their first CMA Award for Vocal Group of the Year, beating top acts including Lady A, Little Big Town, Old Dominion and Rascal Flatts—marking a major milestone in their journey from local barrooms to national stages. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City leaders approved a $6 million contract on Tuesday to upgrade Mobile’s Taylor Park Recreational Center with a new 8,000 square-foot community center and a rebuilt pool house—temporary sites are set at the Inner City Mission on Broad Street and construction will take 18 months.  WKRG News 5
  • The Southern District Court of Alabama held its naturalization ceremony at USS Alabama Battleship Park on November 20, where 60 people from 26 countries became American citizens—attended by former Attorney General Jeff Sessions who noted the event reflects the nation’s yearly new faces. The ceremony marked a new chapter for the naturalized citizens as they pledged their allegiance to the United States.  WKRG News 5
  • The Mobile Law Enforcement Foundation held its Annual Luncheon Wednesday at noon at the Moonlight Ballroom in the Battle House Hotel to raise funds for the Mobile Police Department — retired Rear Admiral Scott Moore, a 30-year SEAL leader, spoke as the keynote.   • Coach Steve Mask, a Hall of Fame coach who won four state titles at St. Paul’s and finished his career at Theodore, retired on Thursday in Mobile and named defensive coordinator Randy Larson as interim coach—he said he is ready to step away from high school football’s mounting pressures—. He said he hopes to work in a role that values the game’s traditions—aiming to keep the sport true to its roots—while planning to enjoy a quieter life off the field.  The Call News
  • Two Eastern Shore teams remain in the state football playoffs and will play today at 7 p.m.—Bayside faces Montgomery Academy at Freedom Field while St. Michael plays Bullock County.
