- ➤ Sonny Brewer announced at the Fairhope City Council meeting that the Tolstoy Park Committee reached its $369,000 fundraising goal to move the historic Hermit Hut to Flying Creek Nature Preserve (supported by matching and anonymous donations from local contributors) after months of work. - ➤ Mobile County will kick off the holiday season with two free, family-friendly events on Saturday, Nov. 15 from noon to 2 p.m. — one at Bayfront Park in Coden and the other at Escatawpa Hollow Park in Wilmer; each event will offer live music, arts and crafts, face painting, mini-carnival games, a fall photo area, and giveaways, with the Escatawpa location also featuring adoptable pets from the Mobile Animal Shelter. - ➤ Mobile Fire-Rescue Department officials are hosting a Boot Drive fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through November 15 to benefit Dumas Wesley Community Center and the Muscular Dystrophy Association; firefighters will collect donations at Rouses in Spring Hill, Sam’s Club at Springdale Mall, and intersections at Airport and Schillinger Roads, Springdale and Dauphin Streets, and Government and Broad Streets—each location supports local programs. - ➤ St. Luke's Episcopal School in Mobile earned national recognition for STEM education by receiving both the National Certificate for STEM Excellence and the National Certificate for STEM Teaching from the National Institute for STEM Education. The school is one of the first in the state to be honored and is praised for its hands-on, inquiry-driven learning approach that prepares students for college, careers and life. WKRG News 5

- ➤ The Mobile County Solid Waste Management Authority voted in favor of a plan to expand the Chastang Landfill in north Mobile County by nearly tripling its trash capacity and allowing out-of-state waste — Waste Management says the project will boost local funds. The County Commission will decide in early December while some board members worry about increased pollution and unpleasant odors — community members expressed concern over future impacts. - ➤ Doug Otto was named Director and CEO of the Alabama Port Authority by the board on November 12th after serving as Interim Director since August. He led key capital projects and will guide the port through its $1.1 billion investment program until March 2027. NBC 15
- ➤ Acadian Ambulance is asking the city council for a permit to run in Mobile while Medevac and Newman's worry a new company will take away 30% of their work. Acadian rented a building, got state approval for four ambulances, and has support from three hospitals, and the council will vote on the request next week—raising tension in the local ambulance battle. - ➤ Legal Services Alabama launched a free online legal guide called Legal Compass AL on Nov. 3 to help residents who struggle to get legal help. The mobile website offers clear instructions for common civil issues & connects users to vetted legal resources. Gulf Coast Media

- ➤ Premier Medical's Audiology & Hearing Aid Center has opened applications for its seventh annual Gift of Hearing giveaway, inviting community members aged 18 and older to send a letter with their story, name, address, email and phone number by Nov. 27 for a free hearing test and new hearing aids; winners will be announced in December. - ➤ Local jewelers Stacy Wellborn and Melanie Warner Spencer launched Maison Mariann two weeks ago in Mobile to offer a fine charm bracelet that empowers women and celebrates life’s meaningful moments—donating 10% of every November sale to LUNGevity for lung cancer research. Their design honors Wellborn’s late mother while supporting Lung Cancer Awareness Month. WKRG News 5
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Fairhope city council approved a 180-day extension on Monday to give developers more time to move the house from Close Encounters of the Third Kind (a 1977 film) that sits near Highways 104 and 181 and was planned for a subdivision and retail project. The planning director said the building department did much due diligence (no further updates have been provided) as developers plan to renovate the house into office space after its move. - ➤ Yesterday morning at McGill-Toolen Catholic High School, five student-athletes signed letters of intent to play college sports — Cami Huff committed to West Virginia University for volleyball, Catherine McClain joined Loyola University New Orleans, Payton McClarren opted for William Carey University for volleyball, Jaedyn Lang selected Belhaven University for volleyball, and Gabby Grant chose Spring Hill College for golf. - ➤ Daphne meets Auburn in a Class 7A Round 2 playoff game on Friday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at Jubilee Stadium — Daphne has not beaten Auburn in a playoff match since 2003 and the winning team will move on to the semifinals. Gulf Coast Media
