COMMUNITY NEWS

  • MCPSS is partnering with Feeding the Gulf Coast to provide one-time boxes of non-perishable food to students in need due to a SNAP delay — parents may request assistance online while local food banks offer additional support.  NBC 15
  • Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis and District 2 Councilwoman Samantha Ingram will join community partners at 9 a.m. today at 1205 Basil Street for a ribbon cutting celebrating the first affordable home built through the city's Housing Improvement Program—an effort set to build 30 homes and reduce blight in the historic Campground neighborhood.  City of Mobile
  • John Kilpatrick, named 2025 Veteran of the Year, joined the Red Couch to share his military career and describe how he founded Vets Recover — an organization that helps veterans battling addiction and other challenges.  WKRG News 5

  • Grammy award-winning country music artist Dwight Yoakam will perform at the Saenger Theatre on Feb. 19 in 2026 in Mobile — tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7.  WKRG News 5

ECONOMY NEWS

  • New data shows that Alabama's economy is growing more slowly as state funds fell by $47 million. Lawmakers say state agencies and schools may cut spending because there are fewer federal relief funds — officials are planning budgets to handle the drop.  WKRG News 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The new student-run salon at Baldwin Preparatory Academy opened to the public yesterday and cosmetology students began offering haircuts, manicures, waxing and other services starting at $5. The salon books appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays every other week and already has 28 appointments scheduled (clients can call the school’s front desk on Mondays to book).  WKRG News 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Mobile Bay Area Veterans Commission will honor veterans with several events next Tuesday. The flag raising ceremony will start at 7 a.m. at Battleship Memorial Park — this event marks the beginning of the day’s planned observances.  WKRG News 5
  • The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries was awarded $519,000 in federal grants to support 14 projects aimed at boosting the specialty crop industry by improving production, disease management and market access. The funding comes from the USDA’s Specialty Crop Block Grant Program—helping local growers adopt sustainable practices for fruits, vegetables, tree nuts and nursery crops.  Gulf Coast Media

SPORTS NEWS

  • Six Baldwin County prep football teams — Bayside Academy, Daphne, Fairhope, Gulf Shores, Snook Christian and St. Michael — have secured playoff spots for the 2025 season. The playoffs will begin on Friday, Nov. 7 as each team moves toward the state championships.  Gulf Coast Media
  • Atmore DragStrip, a popular track for South Alabama and Florida drag racers, will hold its final race on November 29 before closing after nearly 50 years. Owners Joey and Misty Barber said rising costs and criticism forced the decision and they will finish the season with weekly test and tune events.  AL.com
  • On Tuesday night the College Football Playoff committee released its first weekly rankings—placing Alabama at No. 4 and earning the team a first-round bye under the new 12-team format. The committee will update rankings every Tuesday until December 7 and Alabama will host LSU on Saturday before playing No. 12 Oklahoma at home.  1819 News
