- ➤ The 6th Annual Turkey Bowl will take place on Nov. 16 at Hancock Whitney Stadium where it will offer 1,000 free Thanksgiving meals to families in need—starting at 2:30 p.m.—and feature football games with youth teams and NFL Flag League champions. - ➤ Feeding the Gulf Coast is preparing for a surge in food need as SNAP benefits run out Saturday and a government shutdown has impacted over 34,000 individuals in its service area. CEO Michael Ledger said that over 300,000 SNAP users—mostly seniors and families—will soon face extra hunger pressure and he urged community support through volunteering or donations. NBC 15

- ➤ The Alabama Port Authority and APM Terminals signed an agreement to build a 1,300-foot container berth that will boost Mobile’s port capacity by 50% once finished—construction will begin next year and take about two years. - ➤ Four Gulf Coast chefs returned home from the World Food Championships in Indianapolis after competing Oct 16-19 and earning golden tickets for next year while sharing new skills and stories. - ➤ The city painted new traffic lanes and marked parking on St—Anthony Street in downtown Mobile today to help drivers adjust to its shift from one-way to two-way between Broad and Royal streets. This change is part of the Downtown Street Optimization project that is set to make the area safer and more friendly for pedestrians. WKRG News 5
- ➤ Starting in November, Mobile will give iPads to frequent 911 callers to connect them with mental health services (an effort led by Dr. Cindy Gipson) that aims to reduce costly EMS responses, which now exceed $1 million a year. The program will build on a successful pilot with law enforcement to help link callers with clinical support and lower the strain on emergency teams. AL.com

- ➤ McGill-Toolen became the first team in state history to win four straight Class 7A volleyball championships when it beat Thompson 3-1 at Bill Harris Arena Thursday—MVP Catherine McClain led with 20 kills. WKRG News 5
- ➤ St. Michael won 25-20 against UMS-Wright on a last-second touchdown pass by Gunner Rivers after he overcame three interceptions, giving the Cardinals their first undefeated regular season—Baker beat Vigor 21-12 and St. Paul’s edged Spanish Fort 28-24 with a game-winning score by Tank Jones.
