  • Today, Elberta Town Park hosts the October German Sausage Festival from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.—with about 200 arts and crafts and food vendors and a kids’ play area raising funds for the Volunteer Fire Department while bounce house proceeds support the Police Department Reserve Program—with free entry and no pets allowed.  WKRG News 5

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • City officials revealed that a preliminary investigation has determined an electrical issue in the 3Circle Church sanctuary likely caused the fire in midtown Mobile—nearly 50 firefighters worked from around 12:30 a.m. on Oct 24 to control the blaze—and no one was injured.  WKRG News 5
  • Police say Mobile Fire Rescue battled a two-alarm fire early Thursday on South Sage Avenue that damaged 3Circle Midtown Church's sanctuary and an investigation later determined the blaze was likely caused by an electrical issue—no one was injured.  1819 News

  • Gulf Distributing Headquarters has reopened an old building (the former Mobile Press Register site) on Water Street as a new warehouse (243,000 sq ft, $60M project) following a ribbon cutting on Oct 24 that boosted the local workforce by adding 65 jobs to the current 257.  WKRG News 5

CULTURE NEWS

  • ESPN’s First Take filmed a live show Friday at Legion Field to show Alabama’s HBCU culture before today’s Magic City Classic game between Alabama A&M and Alabama State, and fans will join an 8 a.m. parade with tailgate foods and marching bands—bringing a strong display of school pride and tradition.  AL.com

  • The Mobile County Domestic Violence Task Force will hold a town hall meeting on domestic violence at Dayspring Baptist Church on Cody Road at 6 p.m. Tuesday, October 28—residents can watch the event live on WKRG’s Facebook page as Tonie Ann Torrans and Assistant District Attorney Katriesa Crummie discuss ways to raise awareness.  WKRG News 5
  • The federal shutdown has put 752,000 Alabama families at risk of losing food stamp benefits in November because the USDA has not yet released enough funds—state leaders and community groups are urging lawmakers to act fast so families can get the help they need.  AL.com
  • Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch’s home now shows new Halloween decorations after critics objected to an earlier display; the new setup features pumpkins that say 'Make Halloween Great Again' and tombstones with the message R.I.P Sense of Humor — From Beginning of Time to October 2025, along with a skeleton labeled Karen. His wife said the change is tongue-in-cheek and a play on her Cuban background.  AL.com
  • State lawmakers are discussing how to make the Charter School Commission more responsible after a local charter school lost 15% of its students and had low math scores. Senate President Pro-Tem Gudger said lawmakers might change the law so that commissioners serve at the wish of those who choose them — a move under review before the next session.  1819 News

  • Team Alabama ended a 31-year drought by winning the 20th Men's Southeastern Challenge Match title at Rivermont Golf Club in Johns Creek on Oct. 19. Foley native Logan Rawson won his singles match to help the team score 25.5 points + beat Florida and Georgia in every match category.  Gulf Coast Media
