- ➤ Mobile will launch an 18-month, $11.3 million project to rebuild MLK Avenue—once known as Black Wall Street—by adding new sidewalks, bike lanes, underground water and sewer lines, better drainage, and lighting with funds from local, county, and federal sources. The work will create a safe, walkable corridor that honors the area's heritage and aims to attract community investment before year's end. AL.com
- ➤ The Greater Gulf State Fair will return to The Grounds from October 24 to November 2, offering special savings on admission as announced by Executive Director Josh Woods—organizers also previewed new features for this fall staple. - ➤ Cake has announced three upcoming concerts in Alabama & their Mobile show is set for April 27 at 8 p.m. at Saenger Theatre with tickets on sale today at 10 a.m. CT following a presale that began Wednesday morning. AL.com
- ➤ The Mobile City Council approved contracts for a permanent exhibit showcasing Jimmy Buffett's life and career at the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf (the project will move forward to honor his local impact on the arts). Lagniappe Daily
- ➤ OPA! Greek Fest opened in Midtown Mobile behind the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church where attendees enjoyed Greek chants, music, traditional foods, and dancers in authentic costumes. The festival will run through Sunday—giving locals a chance to experience Greek heritage up close. WKRG News 5
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Foley’s Graham Creek Nature Preserve got a $4 million grant from NOAA to protect its current 650 acres and buy an extra 1,600 acres for rare species and native wildlife. The funding will support controlled burns that clear excess vegetation—helping white topped pitcher plants and other endangered species thrive. WKRG News 5

- ➤ Saraland routed Murphy 55 to 0 at Spartan Stadium as quarterback Jamison Roberts threw five touchdowns and coach Jeff Kelly earned his 200th win — a milestone for the team. Meanwhile, Robertsdale broke a 34-game region losing streak by beating Bryant in two overtimes — a historic win for the Golden Bears. The Call News
- ➤ The University of South Alabama football team lost by one point to Arkansas State and fell to 0-3 in the Sun Belt Conference—dropping to 1-6 overall—and is looking to rebound. The Jaguars will face Georgia State on Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. in Atlanta. WKRG News 5
- ➤ Local high school teams Vigor and Williamson will face off tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Ladd-Peebles Stadium as extra security is added and 15,000 to 20,000 fans are expected (stadium rules are updated for the event), marking one of the season's biggest games for Mobile County Public Schools. - ➤ The seventh Great Alabama 650 paddle race ended in Fort Morgan after a 10-day journey covering 650 miles of Alabama waterways. Mobile native Matt Taylor and Bobby Johnson won the overall race in 5 days, 9 hours and 3 minutes (13 boats finished the course) while Salli O'Donnell led the solo female division (posting one of the fastest times). - ➤ On Wednesday, the AHSAA met with 58 private school officials to hold an open dialogue on reclassification concerns and plans for enrollment alignments set to be announced in December. The association is also facing a lawsuit over rules for transfer students using CHOOSE Act funds & it filed a motion to dismiss the suit. 1819 News
