- ➤ The Christian Service Center in Gulf Shores opened registration on Oct. 14 for its Christmas Cheer program to help low-income families give children a joyful holiday. Guardians can sign up at 317 Dolphin Ave from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays & Thursdays from Oct. 14 to Oct. 30 and on Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays from Nov. 4 to Dec. 9 while keeping gift requests to one clothing item per child for newborns to 6-month-olds. - ➤ Warrior Legacy Ranch announced that the Global War on Terrorism Wall of Remembrance will be on display every hour at The Waterfront Restaurant in Daphne from Oct. 18 through Nov. 8 to honor veterans and fallen service members who served from the 1983 Beirut bombing to the U.S. pullout from Afghanistan—its 120-foot wall displays names, a timeline, and a section for veterans lost to suicide. - ➤ The University of South Alabama’s Society of Automotive Engineers will hold its Fall Auto Show on November 9, from noon to 3 p.m. at Shelby Hall—150 Student Services Drive in Mobile, where judging will start at 2 p.m. Registration costs are $20 for cars and $15 for motorcycles which include a free meal ticket, general admission is $5, and students enter free with a valid ID; all proceeds support the team’s efforts to design, build and race a Formula-style car. - ➤ Bellingrath Gardens and Home has unveiled its Centennial Master Plan — a 20-year project that will begin today and upgrade the historic core with a new Family and Children’s Adventure Garden and other improvements. The plan honors the legacy of Walter and Betsy Bellingrath while preserving the garden for future generations. WKRG News 5
- ➤ Patricia McCormick (a two-time National Book Award finalist) will speak at Fairhope Public Library on Thursday, Oct. 16 (6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) to discuss the importance of libraries. She is known for her work, including Never Fall Down and SOLD, and she also co-wrote I am Malala. WKRG News 5

- ➤ Hundreds of correctional professionals attended JailCon hosted by the National Institute for Jail Operations and experienced a Mardi Gras style parade that showcased Mobile’s festive spirit — offering legal training and networking for law enforcement and jail administrators. The conference highlighted local culture and professional development as it brought experts together from across the southeast. WKRG News 5
- ➤ Gov. Kay Ivey declared October as Farm to School Month to highlight local partnerships between farmers and schools — the program has received $1.595 million in state funds and helped schools spend $3,724,315 on Alabama-grown products that have served over 8.5 million meals. Schools will host events and activities this month to let students learn about fresh, local food. Gulf Coast Media
- ➤ Prodisee Pantry in Spanish Fort said families began arriving on Tuesday after the government shutdown led to furloughs and reduced paychecks for many federal workers who barely expected to need help. - ➤ Indivisible announced that a peaceful 'No Kings' protest will take place on October 18 in Mobile — starting at 4 p.m. at Government Plaza and moving to Mardi Gras Park as part of 2,000 nationwide events to show that power belongs to the people. UTV 44
- ➤ The DEA will hold National Take Back Day on Oct 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Mobile, offering dropoff sites at the Mobile Police Department, the DEA Mobile Resident Office, George County Sheriff’s Office, Lucedale Police Department, and Gautier Police Department for safe disposal of unused or expired prescription drugs. - ➤ The Let’s Think Pink breast cancer walk will take place on Saturday, October 18 at Renaissance Park on Holmes Street in Prichard as check-in begins at 7 a.m.—the event will include health screenings and a bell-ringing ceremony to support breast cancer awareness. Tracy Walker, a breast cancer survivor and the event's founder, will speak about the walk's meaning for those fighting the disease. WKRG News 5

- ➤ Mobile Sports Authority reported that Mobile hosted a record 41 sports events during the fiscal year ending Sept. 30 — which generated an estimated $37.6 million for the local economy, slightly less than last fiscal year. The events, covering 21 sports and many youth competitions, mark a nearly 29% increase over past years — showing growing sports tourism. WKRG News 5
- ➤ Snook Christian Academy’s Zoe Galloway finished seventh overall at the Alabama Independent School Association State Cross Country Championships on October 14 with a time of 23:34.78.
