COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The North Baldwin Infirmary Lead Change Grow Committee delivered over 110 bags of candy to residents at the William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette. The donation will let veterans give candy to trick-or-treaters later this month—continuing the group's regular community service work.  Gulf Coast Media

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Airbus opened another assembly line in Mobile today to increase production of its A320 and A321 jets — the expansion builds on a facility that has tripled in size since 2015 and produced over 600 airplanes. Local leaders such as Rep. Shomari Figures and Mayor Sandy Stimpson joined the celebration, marking a key win for Alabama's aerospace industry.  WKRG News 5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mobile Greek Fest will begin Thursday, October 16 at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church on South Ann Street and will run through Sunday. The event, which first started in 1962, accepts only debit or credit payments—ensuring a cashless experience.  WKRG News 5
  • Mardi Gras Park was busy Saturday night as Mobile Latin Fest drew crowds who danced, ate, and enjoyed music from many Latin traditions. The Hispanic American Business Association of the Gulf Coast organized the event to raise scholarship funds for local Hispanic students—bringing a taste of home to downtown Mobile.  The Mobile Rundown

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Several colleges and universities in Alabama reported record enrollments this year as 21 community colleges also reached new highs—major schools include University of Alabama, University of North Alabama, University of South Alabama, Jacksonville State University, University of Mobile and Samford University.  AL.com
  • Citronelle High’s Center for Advanced Technology has run its manufacturing academy for over 11 years to teach students modern production skills and robotics. Senior Alanah Rivers will start an apprenticeship with Airbus after graduation while former student Drake Lloyd works as an IT intern coding robots—making daily work flows more efficient.  WKRG News 5

  • Mobile Baykeeper raised concerns about the Army Corps of Engineers plan to dump 90 million cubic yards of mud into Mobile Bay over the next 20 years to maintain a 50-foot channel—Sen. Katie Britt said she believes economic growth can continue if the dredged material is used in ways that protect natural resources.  UTV 44

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby recalled a trip to Southeast Asia that led him to praise Mobile’s new ship channel—now 50 feet deep—as local and federal officials celebrated its opening on Monday.  Lagniappe Daily
  • Starting today, ALDOT will temporarily close the I-10 Exit 35-A ramp for drivers heading into Daphne at 9 a.m. as crews install a new light pole foundation— the ramp will reopen by 4 p.m. today.  WKRG News 5
  • The Port of Mobile finished its 50-foot deep ship channel, making it the deepest container port in the Gulf of America. Dignitaries including Mayor Sandy Stimpson (who called the project transformational) and Gov. Kay Ivey attended Monday’s ceremony, and the $366 million investment (by state and federal funds) is expected to attract larger ships and more jobs to Mobile.  1819 News

  • Baptist Health Care Foundation is partnering with local Honda dealers this October to raise funds for its Mammogram Fund that has given year-round screening access for 16 years. The fundraiser includes a drawing with tickets at $25 or five for $100 — offering a prize package valued at $1,650 that will be drawn on Nov. 3 at 4 p.m.  Gulf Coast Media

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Saraland Spartans won 42-10 Friday night in a preseason game against St. Paul's, with quarterback Jamison Roberts throwing for 234 yards and three touchdowns. Coach Jeff Kelly said his team has started 7-0 and shown strong play on both offense and defense — a sign they may continue to dominate in Class 6A football.  The Call News
