  • At Mardi Gras Park on Saturday evening, the Hispanic American Business Association of the Gulf Coast hosted Mobile Latin Fest to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month and raise funds for local scholarships.   • Robert C. Morgan, a retired local reporter, has released his new book 'Praying in the Pine Straw' through the University of Alabama Press.   • Hatch launched its 12-week Music Accelerator, an immersive program that combines music, technology, and entrepreneurship to improve the Gulf Coast’s creative economy—participants receive studio time, mentorship, and training to create market-ready releases.   • At the 52nd Annual National Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores, officials are using DNA testing to check that all 18 vendors serve domestic shrimp as required by their contracts.   • Alabama Extension Master Gardeners in Mobile have boosted the Wilmer Hall Children’s Home garden by installing a new irrigation system, adding fresh soil and seedlings, and setting a schedule to keep the garden productive through the fall. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Friday, Paul Finebaum appeared in a Zaxby's drive-thru commercial as he weighed a potential run for Alabama's U.S. Senate seat while still under contract with ESPN. He has until Jan. 23 to decide on his political future after discussions with Washington officials.  WKRG News 5
  • Foley approved a plan on Oct.6 to build a 10,000 square foot safe room on North Poplar Street for first responders to ride out hurricanes by the 2027 storm season. City officials will seek bids, select a contractor in November, and start construction in January for a 14 to 16 month build period—once completed the facility, funded mostly by a FEMA grant, will also be used for training and other city needs.  Gulf Coast Media

  • More than 1,000 runners and walkers took part in the Bras Across the Causeway 5K and Fun Run at Battleship Park and raised funds to help cover food, gas, rent, and medical bills for breast cancer patients in Mobile and Baldwin counties—supporting local care.  NBC 15
  • Residents in Fairhope will attend the Hope Community Health and Wellness Fair on Oct. 18—hosted by the Fairhope Rotary Youth Club from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.—to receive free screenings, eye care services, and guidance on mental health, substance abuse, and nutrition; the event will also provide family art projects and a chance to register to vote.  Gulf Coast Media

  • Ty Simpson threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns as Alabama edged Missouri 27 to 24 on Saturday when Daniel Hill caught a critical fourth down pass with 3:16 remaining to secure the win. The loss ended Missouri’s fifteen game home winning streak.  Alabama Public Radio
  • In Fairhope, the St. Michael Cardinals defeated Mobile Christian by a score of 46 to 37 + claimed the 4A Region 1 title while keeping their perfect season intact, with seniors Noah Moss and Brody Jones scoring key touchdowns. Coach Phillip Rivers said the team’s strong defense and balanced offense held off their opponents + they will host Pensacola next Thursday to boost their playoff standing.  Gulf Coast Media
