- ➤ The Ronald McDonald House of Mobile celebrates 25 years of providing a home-away-from-home for families with children in hospitals and will host an Open House on Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. to let community members see its services and meet the team — over 11,000 families have benefited since 2000. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Fairhope author Patricia Foster won a state literary prize at the Monroeville Literary Festival and will be awarded the 2026 Alabama Truman Capote Prize—an honor for distinguished non-fiction or short story writing—in February. WKRG News 5
- ➤ The Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and School will host its Fall Gumbo Festival tomorrow at 304 Sengstak Street from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the church & school. WKRG News 5
- ➤ The Baldwin County Genealogical Society will host historian Mike Bunn on Oct. 11 for a presentation titled 'The Southern Metropolis: Life in Antebellum Mobile.' The program begins at 10 a.m. in the Foley Public Library meeting room—seating is limited to 42 and reservations close once capacity is reached. Gulf Coast Media
- ➤ Hannah McFarland, a rising country singer from Mobile, is set to debut at the Grand Ole Opry on Oct. 31, fulfilling a lifelong bucket list dream. She has boosted her profile with collaborations such as songs with Riley Green and Chase Rice and will join the 2026 Stagecoach lineup (more artists for the Opry show are to be announced). AL.com
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Mobile County reopened Cedar Point Pier today at 5 p.m. after a million-dollar remodel—allowing free fishing for Alabama residents without a license. The improved pier has new lighting, parking, restrooms, and catch cleaning tables—and will remain open 24/7 except on Christmas. NBC 15
- ➤ Officials announced that about $45 million in Gulf of Mexico Energy Security Act (GOMESA) funds were awarded to support 23 coastal projects in Alabama. Lagniappe Daily
- ➤ A judge heard arguments on Thursday over a lawsuit filed after the District Two City Council election in Mobile—Samantha Ingram, who won the race, now faces a challenge from current councilman William Carroll over residency requirements. Lawyers debated whether the Alabama statute or the Zoghby Act should apply and will reconvene in two weeks for a decision. WKRG News 5

- ➤ Melton Health and Faith Corporation is hosting its 10th Annual Healthy Lifestyle 5k and fun run walk at Mardi Gras Park on October 18. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to enjoy live gospel music — face painting, arts and crafts, a health fair, and food will also be available. WKRG News 5
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday night, Theodore beat Murphy 31-0 at C.A. Douglas Field as Kendrick Able scored three touchdowns on short runs — and the Panthers were held to just 42 yards of offense. The win marked Theodore's eighth straight victory over Murphy. The Call News
- ➤ Murphy head coach Sherman Williams defended his team after a 100-0 loss to Williamson and clarified there is no investigation into the game—Mobile County officials confirmed no policy was violated. He canceled a scheduled radio segment when advised not to discuss the game and said his focus remains on rebuilding his young team for future championships. AL.com
