CULTURE NEWS

  • Fans filled the Mobile Convention Center over the weekend for South Alabama Comic-Con where voice actors like Scott Innes and Efren Ramirez and local cosplayers showcased their skills. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Alabama was ranked eighth in a 2025 Top States for Doing Business study by Area Development that measured speed, workforce wins, and business climate—praising its incentive programs and property tax rates while noting Georgia and Tennessee ranked higher.  1819 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Bishop State Community College reported a record 4,505 students enrolled for fall—its highest in 20 years. The number is 12.6% higher than last year and marks three consecutive years of double-digit growth.  WKRG News 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Rep. Barry Moore said Alabama farmers need the best tools to help them thrive and has worked to stop a rule that would raise farm labor costs—he has also supported bills to expand disaster insurance and improve rural utilities.   • MAWSS filed a lawsuit and sought an arrest warrant after a Facebook video showed fishermen crossing protective booms at Big Creek Lake—Mobile’s main drinking water source for the city and parts of Baldwin.   • Mobile City Council votes today on a vape tax ordinance that will impose an excise tax on consumable vapor product wholesalers and add a $150 annual fee—adding a 10-cent per milliliter surcharge for in-city sales and a 5-cent charge for products sold outside city limits but within police jurisdiction—if passed, the ordinance will take effect on Oct. 1.  WKRG News 5

SPORTS NEWS

  • Williamson High School beat Murphy 100 to 0 Friday night (73 to 0 at halftime) and improved to a 6-0 season with 311 points scored while Murphy managed only 14.
