- ➤ The Port of Mobile will modernize its Intermodal Container Transfer Facility after the Mobile Industrial Development Board approved support for the expansion. APM Terminals Mobile and the Alabama Port Authority have invested $58.6 million—adding two 3,000-foot working tracks and two Cantilever Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes—to boost the facility’s capacity and efficiency. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The South Alabama Land Trust will host its annual Gulf Coast Nature Expo at Weeks Bay Plantation in Fairhope on Saturday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.—the free event will offer live raptor demos, marine touch tanks, interactive exhibits and art activities, and local nonprofits and government agencies will host booths to share their work. - ➤ Carletta Davis won the runoff election in Prichard on Sept 23 with 2,191 votes, defeating incumbent Mayor Jimmie Gardner and becoming the town’s first Black woman mayor. She has led community efforts to address the water and sewage crisis — issues that dominated the election. AL.com
- ➤ Spiro Cheriogotis was named mayor-elect after a runoff election in Mobile where he won by only a few thousand votes over Barbara Drummond, and he had received current mayor Sandy Stimpson's endorsement. WKRG News 5
- ➤ The Alabama Department of Revenue warned taxpayers today not to click on links in suspicious tax refund texts that scammers send to steal personal and financial information — the agency confirmed it does not send such messages and advised users to delete them immediately. Similar scams have been reported in other states, although no cases have been confirmed in Alabama. AL.com
- ➤ Dozens of Mobile voters turned out Tuesday to vote in the mayoral runoff, but a technical glitch with the Tenex Electronic Poll Book marked some as 'inactive'—the city clerk resolved the issue and provisional ballots will be counted on September 30. 1819 News
- ➤ The Alabama Department of Transportation will begin work on the Dauphin Island Bridge on Sept. 30 to extend its life and improve road safety. The $33.66 million project will cause daily lane closures on the 3.45-mile bridge until early 2029 — drivers are urged to slow down and check real-time updates via the ALGO Traffic app. WKRG News 5

- ➤ The American Red Cross is asking donors to help strengthen the nation’s blood supply this fall and offers a $10 Amazon.com gift card for those who give blood, platelets, or plasma by Oct. 19—blood drives will be held in Daphne on Oct. 7 from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., in Gulf Shores on Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and in Foley on Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Gulf Coast Media

- ➤ Foley will host the 2025 USA Archery Collegiate 3D Nationals from October 2 through 4 at Graham Creek Nature Preserve—over 200 college archers will compete in individual and team events in various bow divisions following Archery Shooter’s Association rules.
