  • Disability advocates are gathering in Mobile this week for the annual ARC of Alabama Disability Conference held at the Renaissance Riverview Plaza Hotel through Wednesday—focusing on independent living and employment opportunities as a new SNASY station for special needs is set to debut for Mardi Gras.  WKRG News 5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mobile will soon see a 7.5-foot statue of Jimmy Buffett by sculptor Ben Victor—set for unveiling in September 2026 outside the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf. The project, backed by the Mobile Arts Council and Buffett’s family, honors the singer’s deep connection to the Gulf Coast.  The Mobile Rundown
  • Mobile Parks and Rec will host its third annual Tricksey Gospel Fest this Friday, Sept. 26 at Dotch Community Center at noon — the free event, sponsored by Aetna, Oak Street Health and the department, started in 2023 for Tricksey Senior Center and now welcomes all who come to celebrate faith and music. Senior citizens who attend will receive a free lunch if supplies last.  WKRG News 5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Mobile's resilience team today launched Naturally Mobile to show homeowners and businesses how to use rain gardens and permeable pavers to slow stormwater and ease flooding. The program—backed by a $140,000 grant—will host community meetings in each district and form a stormwater team of 30 staff with $5 million a year set aside for drainage upgrades.  The Mobile Rundown
  • The City of Mobile will host a free hazardous household waste collection event on Oct. 11 at the James Seals Community Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.—Mobile residents can dispose of automotive fluids, aerosols, herbicides, and other approved items while businesses are not eligible.  WKRG News 5
  • Prichard has faced a water crisis as nearly 50 million gallons of raw sewage spilled over the past three years, causing unsafe waterways and high bills for residents. A master plan for pipe and tank repairs is approved—but ADEM has not released funds pending new leadership while some board members face charges for mismanaging funds.  1819 News

  • Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson announced the city is officially storm-ready after completing the Storm Ready Initiative to improve severe weather preparedness. The National Weather Service confirmed Mobile is the state's second city to receive the distinction—highlighting its commitment to public safety.  1819 News
  • Mobile voters are choosing a new mayor today as Mayor Sandy Stimpson did not run for a third term — state legislator Barbara Drummond and former district judge Spiro Cheriogotis are in a close race with other candidates. The candidates are working hard in areas like Toulminville, West Mobile, and Springhill to secure every vote.  WKRG News 5
  • Samantha Ingram, who won the district 2 Mobile City Council race, filed a motion on Friday to challenge the one-year residency requirement—she argues that the 90-day rule in the General Election Law should apply instead. Current District 2 representative William Carroll brought the lawsuit, which questions conflicting state election laws and leaves her qualifications under review.  UTV 44

  • Faith Academy won 48-20 over Elberta on homecoming night—using fast runs and touchdowns to improve their record to 1-3 while Elberta fell to 0-5 for the season.  Gulf Coast Media
  • Two injured Alabama players, running back Jam Miller and captain Tim Keenan, are set to play Saturday against No. 5 Georgia after missing previous games because of injuries.
