- ➤ City of Mobile chose sculptor Ben Victor—known for historic statues—to create a 7.5-foot statue of Jimmy Buffett for the waterfront. The statue shows Buffett playing his guitar and will be unveiled in September 2026 to honor his Gulf Coast roots. WKRG News 5
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Southern Living named Spring Hill College as one of the 45 Most Beautiful College Campuses in the South — a recognition based on its historic St. Joseph Chapel, an 18-hole golf course, and the scenic Avenue of the Oaks. The college, the oldest Catholic college in the Southeast, welcomes prospective students with its distinct charm. WKRG News 5

- ➤ Mobile County Communications District 911 terminated Director Roy Hodge effective September 18th and named Deputy Director Robert Jackson as interim director—an action taken to maintain the agency's values and standards. UTV 44
- ➤ Former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones visited Mobile on Sept. 18 to encourage voters for mayoral candidate Barbara Drummond ahead of the runoff on Sept. 23—he met with local community leaders and stressed the importance of every vote as state funding cuts may soon impact local services. AL.com
- ➤ The Mobile County Communications District fired its director today — he is no longer in charge at the agency. Lagniappe Daily
- ➤ Mobile city officials broke ground on a $16.79 million renovation of 17 blocks of St. Louis Street—Mayor Sandy Stimpson said the project will improve the street while keeping the neighborhood accessible. Lagniappe Daily

- ➤ Daphne High School volleyball assistant coach Savannah Cooper, 34, is battling her third bout with cancer in six years—she underwent emergency brain surgery last summer and leans on her family and players for support as she continues treatment. Gulf Coast Media

- ➤ Orange Beach snapped a two-game losing streak on Friday night with a 47-21 win over Satsuma as running back Aiden Kee scored four touchdowns—securing the Makos’ first 4A Region 1 victory. The Makos will travel to Robertsdale next week for a season matchup. Gulf Coast Media
