- ➤ The Haven for Animals will mark 25 years of lifesaving work by hosting its second annual Tails of Hope Gala on Thursday, Sept. 25 at The Venue, 105 S. Section St in Fairhope, with the event running from 6 & 9:30 p.m. The celebration honors Dr. Theresa Marshall’s legacy and will feature live music, special drinks, and snacks to support animal care programs across the region. - ➤ Former Prichard councilman Derrick Griffin pleaded guilty to Insurance Fraud 1st degree — he received a sentence of 2 years in prison suspended for 1 year of informal probation, according to court documents. UTV 44

- ➤ Main Street Mobile recently honored Goodwyn Mills Cawood—recognized for its design of the Isom Clemon Civil Rights Memorial Park—with the Excellence in Architecture and Design Award. The park displays a bronze statue and plaques that tell Clemon’s story and support future cultural projects in downtown Mobile. NBC 15
- ➤ The 50th Anniversary Spectacular Tour of Rocky Horror Picture Show will screen at Saenger Theatre on Sept 24 at 8 p.m.—the event features a live shadow cast, audience participation, a pre-show Q&A with Barry Bostwick, a costume contest, and a memorabilia display with official prop bags while VIP ticket holders will meet Bostwick for photos. - ➤ In 2021, the Coleman family discovered a 32-million-year-old leatherback sea turtle shell while fishing north of Mobile—paleontologist Drew Gentry said the fossil was embedded in a large boulder on a riverbank and required special equipment to remove, and it is now on display at the McWane Science Center in Birmingham. - ➤ A local architecture firm won the Excellence in Architecture and Design Award from Main Street Mobile for its work on the Isom Clemon Civil Rights Memorial Park, which features a large bronze statue of Clemon — educational plaques and community spaces created with input from local schools also make up the park design. The park serves as a memorial to the civil rights leader and a gathering place for labor and local community events. WKRG News 5
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local oyster farmers in Mobile Bay are suing dredging companies—Carter’s Contracting Services, Weeks Marine, and Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company—for causing excess sediment that has raised oyster deaths to over 50% since last May. Attorney Martin Cunningham said the companies argue there is not enough evidence to prove their work is linked to the high mortality rates. NBC 15

- ➤ Foley’s Riviera Utilities was awarded the national SOAR honor by the American Public Gas Association for excellence in natural gas service — the public utility from Baldwin County was chosen from nearly 750 members for its work in system integrity, employee safety, and workforce development. - ➤ Barbara Drummond’s run for Mobile mayor got a boost when U.S. Senator Cory Booker endorsed her on Friday. Booker said her work in city, county and state government — like working on gun violence prevention, job training and budget management — makes her the best choice. UTV 44

- ➤ A Baldwin County woman fell off her boat on Labor Day in Orange Beach—an accident that injured her feet and led to a rare Vibrio infection. Doctors at Thomas Hospital performed emergency surgery—she was released within a week and now recovers at home with a central line for antibiotics. WKRG News 5
