ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Aug. 14, the Alabama Department of Environmental Management ordered Wilkes Construction Company Inc. to stop work on an Elberta subdivision after inspectors found stormwater runoff carrying sediment into Moccasin Bayou. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, September 16 at noon, candidates Barbara Drummond and Spiro Cheriogotis will face off in a mayoral debate—hosted by AL.com and sponsored by AARP—at Mobile Hub on Dauphin Street as they prepare for the Sept. 23 runoff. • Two separate Mobile County election challenges have forced candidates to pay legal bonds: Lorenzo Martin in Prichard paid $10,000 to contest the count of 13 provisional ballots, and Councilman William Carroll paid $25,000 to question residency requirements for Samantha Ingram in District 2. Martin argues that the delayed delivery of ballots from a senior center was unfair — while Carroll’s case focuses on verifying eligibility ahead of the runoff.  AL.com
