- ➤ Mobile Makerspace will hold a public open house on September 27 from noon to 6 p.m. Visitors will join facility tours and live demos on 3D printing, woodworking, sewing, and electronics—offering a first look at its tools and future projects. WKRG News 5

- ➤ For Derylyn Lovince's birthday, her husband surprised her with an Amtrak ticket from New Orleans to Mobile and they arrived ahead of schedule on Thursday morning. Amtrak reported 6,700 passengers in 15 days of Mardi Gras service and will add a coach car with 62 extra seats on several future weekends—such as during Saints game weekends—to meet growing demand. - ➤ A Mobile billboard along St. Stephen’s Road stirred anger after showing two Black clowns and a message that some thought was political. Michael Lewis said on Sept. 10 that the ad is for a comedy show celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Laugh, Love, Live—set for Oct. 12 at Black Wolf Event Hall in Prichard. AL.com

- ➤ At Perdido Beach Resort on Aug. 9, the Makos Academics, Arts — Athletics Club held its sixth annual Gala that raised over $50,000 for Orange Beach City Schools, with $27,344 coming from a silent auction and additional funds from ticket sales and sponsorships. - ➤ On Aug. 14, the Alabama Department of Environmental Management ordered Wilkes Construction Company Inc. to stop work on an Elberta subdivision after inspectors found stormwater runoff carrying sediment into Moccasin Bayou. Baldwin County officials said the project falls under Elberta’s control while experts warn that heavy rains from rapid growth can overwhelm drainage systems (stormwater may soon raise flood risks). - ➤ On Tuesday, September 16 at noon, candidates Barbara Drummond and Spiro Cheriogotis will face off in a mayoral debate—hosted by AL.com and sponsored by AARP—at Mobile Hub on Dauphin Street as they prepare for the Sept. 23 runoff. The debate will be broadcast live on YouTube and Facebook so voters can hear their visions for Mobile. AL.com
- ➤ Two separate Mobile County election challenges have forced candidates to pay legal bonds: Lorenzo Martin in Prichard paid $10,000 to contest the count of 13 provisional ballots, and Councilman William Carroll paid $25,000 to question residency requirements for Samantha Ingram in District 2. Martin argues that the delayed delivery of ballots from a senior center was unfair — while Carroll’s case focuses on verifying eligibility ahead of the runoff. AL.com
