COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mobile Public Library Bookmobile rolled into action on Monday to bring books and free Wi-Fi to local neighborhoods by stopping at Ashland Place, Arabella Healthcare, and Baptist Oak — managed by April Brooke — so residents could sign up for library cards and borrow books. The service — which follows a three-week rotation — will soon reach more areas to give everyone better access to reading materials.  The Mobile Rundown
  • After months of upgrades, the Newhouse Teen Center reopened on Alston Drive and welcomed teenagers with a celebration featuring live music, free snacks, and group painting on Sept. 3 — energizing the local area. The center now offers a dedicated gaming area and academic programs such as ACT prep — promising more themed events and mentoring sessions this fall.  The Mobile Rundown

CRIME NEWS

  • Mobile County Sheriff’s Office arrested 39-year-old Arthur Kirkland on Sunday night on manslaughter charges—he is linked to the death of 46-year-old Amy Bosarge, who was hit by a vehicle near Bayou La Batre.  WKRG News 5
  • Foley police arrested 21-year-old Christopher Alejandro Sancez-Mendoza after a grand jury indicted him on a count of criminally negligent homicide—vehicular following a DUI crash that killed 18-year-old Cesar Chavez and 19-year-old Brandon Palencia when a pickup struck their electric scooter on April 13.  WKRG News 5
  • Daniel Holifield, a former Mobile County Sheriff's Office sergeant, was indicted on 13 charges for stealing impounded vehicles — including a Mazda, Toyota and Pontiac — and forging title documents with bail set at $52,500.  UTV 44

  • Boosie Badazz will perform at the Mobile Saenger Theatre on November 14 at 8 p.m.—tickets will go on sale Friday, Sept 12 at 10 a.m.  UTV 44

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • William Carroll filed a legal challenge to void the District 2 election results — he alleges that winner Samantha Ingram did not meet the one-year residency rule as she is still registered in Georgia and had not voted in Mobile since 2006.  NBC 15
  • County and state officials broke ground on a $24.4 million, two-year overhaul of Bayou La Batre docks on Monday—marking the start of repairs on the hurricane-damaged waterfront.  Lagniappe Daily
