- ➤ The Mobile Parks and Recreation Department will reopen the renovated Newhouse Teen Center today at 2960 Alston Drive with a free “Hump Day Hangout: Paint Edition” event from 5 to 7 p.m.—teens ages 13 to 18 can enjoy live music, food, and creative painting while supporting local families by donating canned goods. City of Mobile
- ➤ Today at 11 a.m., Most Rev. Mark S. Rivituso will be installed as the third archbishop of Mobile at the Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception—Cardinal Christophe Pierre will lead the ceremony. Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. public prayer started the festivities, and around 25 bishops and archbishops are expected to attend. WKRG News 5
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Jabari Maliek Stots, 28, from Foley was sentenced to eight years in prison — he must also serve three years on supervised release and pay a $100 fine after leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen car and illegally carrying a pistol. WKRG News 5
- ➤ A man was shot on Dawes Lane in Mobile over the weekend — officers said he was hit by someone he knew and taken to a local hospital as police continue investigating. WKRG News 5
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Chickasaw Mayor Barry Broadhead is out of office after the city council confirmed close unofficial vote counts on Sept. 2, and a runoff election with candidates Tyran Colvin and Bill Vallon is scheduled for Sept. 23—official results will determine the next mayor. WKRG News 5
