CRIME NEWS

  • Mobile police investigated a shooting that occurred before dawn Sunday at 1608 St. Stephens Road—officers blocked part of the road and taped off a bar parking lot as several people left the area.  WKRG News 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Polling places across Alabama held festive tailgate events with tents, grills and music near the voting doors despite a law that limits electioneering to 30 feet away—sparking debate among candidates and experts over whether the rule should be changed. In Mobile, voters witnessed candidates greeting them at the polls while some locals called for a longer buffer to improve voter comfort.  AL.com
  • Brad Bass will take over as mayor of Spanish Fort after winning the election against incumbent Mike McMillan—he is working with a transition team and plans to boost public safety, retail, parks, and city services while addressing temporary issues at Fire Station 4 and the senior center.  1819 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A report by Girl Scouts councils in Alabama found that girls in 66 counties faced rising mental health struggles, academic challenges, body image issues and cyberbullying, with nearly half of high school girls feeling sad and 45% reporting bullying.   • Baldwin Bone and Joint will host free lunch and learn sessions on hip and knee replacements in Spanish Fort and Orange Beach this fall — the first session is set for Sept 24 at the Spanish Fort Express YMCA with reservations due by Sept 17 and the second is scheduled for Oct 17 at the Orange Beach Senior Center with reservations due by Oct 13.  Gulf Coast Media
