CULTURE NEWS

  • Mobile’s Crescent Theater will reopen on Sept. 4 with a Grand re-re-re-re-opening that features local comedy and film events. The venue will host a comedy show with Joe Zimmerman at 7 p.m. on Sept. 4, another with Matt Braunger at 7 p.m. on Sept. 5, and a screening of The Big Lebowski at 7 p.m. on Sept. 6 (at 208 Dauphin St) with tickets costing between $10 and $39.50.  AL.com
  • Rolling Stone released a making-of video that shows Needtobreathe and The Red Clay Strays recording their upcoming single 'Momma Loves Me' with producer Dave Cobb at Georgia Mae studio in Savannah. Brandon Coleman and Bear Rinehart share gospel-drenched vocals on the track, which will be released on Sept. 5.  AL.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The race for Mobile’s next mayor is heating up as candidates Barbara Drummond and Spiro Cheriogotis prepare for a runoff and ramp up their campaigns ahead of Election Day, Sept. 23. Drummond said she did not sleep last night as supporters brought yard signs to her headquarters — Cheriogotis woke up early, riding his neighborhood and asking for votes.  WKRG News 5
  • Mobile city councilors previewed a new contract for the WAVE bus system on Wednesday morning—city executive staff described it as the most cost-effective and exciting plan. Officials said more details will be shared as the agreement is finalized.  Lagniappe Daily
  • Starting Tuesday, September 2, Conception St. Rd will be closed at the 3 Mile Creek Bridge for one month to repair the bridge abutments and maintain safety. Drivers will follow detour routes—northbound via Beauregard St, I-65, and Africatown Blvd and southbound on the reverse route with southside business access rerouted around Orange Grove Homes and Renaissance housing developments.  City of Mobile

  • Defending Class 6A state champion Spanish Fort swept Foley and Elberta in a tri-match Tuesday night at Foley High School to push its 2025 record to 11-1—Foley and Elberta will return Aug. 29-30 at the Foley Event Center for the annual Labor Day Classic.  Gulf Coast Media
