  • Make-A-Wish Alabama will host its annual Wish Night gala on Sept 25 in downtown Mobile at the Renaissance Mobile Riverview Plaza Hotel—doors open at 6 p.m. and the evening will offer fine dining, live music and dancing to support 38 local children with critical illnesses.  Gulf Coast Media

CRIME NEWS

  • A Mobile man arrested in January for allegedly driving a skid-steer onto Interstate 10 and attempting to attack police pleaded not guilty—his attorney said his client is still in the hospital.  Lagniappe Daily

CULTURE NEWS

  • Historic Blakeley State Park will offer special boat cruises on the Alabama River during the Fort Mims reenactment from August 29-31 — guided tours will depart from Holley Creek Landing to help visitors learn about the battle and early American history.  UTV 44

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson presented his proposed FY 2026 budget that includes $1.6 million for a new police department, nearly $1 million for an ankle monitoring program, and $200,000 to expand the spay and neuter program—he also allocated $80 million for capital improvements across the city and a 2.5% merit raise for city employees. This plan aims to boost public safety and support local infrastructure without cutting services from reserves.  1819 News
  • State Rep. Margie Wilcox said on Wednesday that lawmakers required testimony to be sworn at the Sunset Committee meetings that began on Thursday—using a Bible to help ensure only truthful, firsthand accounts were given.  1819 News
