- ➤ Spanish Fort officials said Town Center Park at 29000 Bass Pro Drive (located in the Bass Pro Shopping Center) will open Friday at 9 a.m. with a ribbon cutting at 10 a.m., and the park will feature six pickleball courts, a renovated playground and splash pad, plus a pavilion with picnic tables and lighting for evening play. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Governor Kay Ivey set a window from 12 a.m. October 23 to 6 a.m. October 24 for the execution of Anthony Todd Boyd—sentenced to death in 1995 for kidnapping and killing Gregory Huguley in 1993. 1819 News
- ➤ Mobile Police reported that on August 18th at about 11:15 p.m. a 24-year-old woman broke into an apartment at 3105 Dauphin St—located south of Dauphin Apartments—and used pepper spray on a male victim before being arrested. NBC 15
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Stormwater runoff from an Elberta development that once clouded a tributary to Wolf Bay has cleared, but work crews resumed after an ADEM cease-and-desist order to stabilize the site—construction cannot resume until written approval is received and the next heavy rain tests the area. - ➤ Stand Up Mobile has released 2025 voter guides for Mobile and Prichard ahead of next week’s local elections. The nonpartisan guides (which offer key details on voting, candidate names and important dates) are available online and at local community spots. NBC 15
- ➤ The Town of Magnolia Springs said Monday that the Magnolia Landing boardwalk remains partly closed because a property owner placed a barrier to avoid liability after lawsuits changed property ownership—its closure affects river access. - ➤ Mobile Circuit Court Judge Jill Phillips dismissed a lawsuit filed by Reggie Hill that challenged Dr. Samanatha Ingram’s qualifications for District 2 candidacy on Monday. - ➤ The world’s longest paddle race, Great Alabama 650, begins Oct. 4 from Weiss Lake and will challenge 28 elite paddlers in 20 boats to cover 650 miles in 10 days—battling whitewater, tidewater currents and nine dam portages before finishing in Mobile Bay. The event, hosted by Alabama Scenic River Trail—who manages over 6,500 miles of paddling trails statewide—allows competitors to switch vessels and lets fans track the race with a live map.
