- ➤ Amtrak returned its Mardi Gras Service to Mobile for the first time since Hurricane Katrina—300 passengers enjoyed a festive ride from New Orleans as the train began operating twice daily on a route with stops at Bay St. Louis, Gulfport, Biloxi, and Pascagoula. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Baldwin County sheriff’s deputies responded at 1 a.m. on August 16 in Daphne to a domestic violence call when former Tide and NFL running back Timothy TJ Yeldon turned off the lights during forced entry efforts—he was arrested on charges of third-degree domestic violence, criminal mischief and interference with a domestic violence emergency call and later posted a $2,000 bond for release. 1819 News
- ➤ A Mobile County Sheriff’s Office chase that began this afternoon on Rangeline Road ended in a crash near Dauphin Island Parkway when the pursued vehicle collided with another, injuring the other driver—marking the second incident in less than a week after a chase on Airport Boulevard. - ➤ Thousands of students arrived at University of Mobile on move-in day with cars full of boxes and bedding while staff helped them settle in—families shared both pride and nervousness. - ➤ Foley voters will cast ballots Aug. 26 at the Civic Center to elect a new city council that will guide major projects over the next four years—plans include a new aquatic center to replace the long-used outdoor pool, a larger civic center, a museum honoring the city’s World War II heritage, and more community improvements.
