- ➤ A Michigan-based welding company, Dynasty Fab, will open its first workshop outside Michigan at the Chickasaw Marine Terminal in Chickasaw and create 30 new jobs for local residents—offering advanced manufacturing for defense, aerospace and automotive sectors. - ➤ A single-vehicle crash at about 9:17 p.m. on August 6 in Theodore killed 71-year-old pedestrian Dannie J. Palmer when he was struck by a 2004 GMC Envoy driven by Jeremy S. Saunders, Jr.—Palmer was taken to USA Health Providence Hospital in Mobile where he later died as ALEA continues to investigate. NBC 15
- ➤ Jesse Mainor was arrested last week near Fountain Correctional Facility after a K-9 officer spotted his suspicious vehicle on Poarch Creek property when he attempted to smuggle 29 cell phones by drone into the prison (he faces charges of Attempting to Elude, Illegal Drone Use on Prison Property, and Prohibited Activities and may face more charges). 1819 News

- ➤ State Rep. Margie Wilcox (R-Mobile) urged all partners to change the method of dumping dredged material in Mobile Bay after local seafood businesses raised concerns about a project that will deposit 90 million cubic yards of spoil over 20 years. She said the current plan may hurt the water-based jobs that our community depends on. 1819 News
- ➤ The City of Mobile will remove 26 traffic signals from low-traffic intersections in downtown and replace them with four-way stops starting Monday August 11 as part of its Downtown Street Optimization Plan to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety. During a 90-day transition — required by federal law— all signals will flash red while engineers monitor traffic and upgrade crosswalks and ramps. 1819 News
- ➤ Food banks on the Gulf Coast are feeding record numbers of hungry families as grocery prices climb and new SNAP rules move more funding responsibilities to the states.
