- ➤ Mobile Tiki Week will run Aug 18-23 and bring tiki drinks, food and Polynesian pop to 32 downtown venues—party-goers can enjoy themed coffee, lunch specials and even golf cart taxis turned into party barges. - ➤ The body of 17-year-old William Glass, a rising senior from McGill-Toolen Catholic, was recovered from Smith Lake Sunday night — his school is holding a rosary and prayer service at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 6 p.m. today. NBC 15

- ➤ Mobile police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Monday morning on the 1200 block of Henckley Avenue at 3:15 a.m.—officers said the victim, who was shot by a man he knew, was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries while three vehicles were hit. WKRG News 5

- ➤ Mobile will honor baseball legends Hank Aaron and Ozzie Smith when their statues are dedicated on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in front of the Mobile Convention Center—attended by family members, local leaders and supporters of other honorees including Billy Williams, Satchel Paige, Willie McCovey and Robert Brazile. - ➤ Seven University of South Alabama track & field athletes were named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I All-Academic Team for earning a GPA of at least 3.25; two were honored for the indoor season and five for outdoor events. WKRG News 5

- ➤ Mayors from across Alabama met in Tuscaloosa on Monday to push for a change in the online sales tax law that, they say, harms schools, first responders, and small businesses. Tuscaloosa officials plan to sue the state over an estimated $14.6 million loss while county leaders argue that the loss figures are exaggerated—highlighting the dispute over how tax revenue is split. 1819 News
- ➤ Federal judges questioned lawyers on Tuesday about a request by Black voters and civil rights groups to have federal review applied to new congressional maps (the state’s attorney general and the U.S. Department of Justice oppose the request) after courts ruled that Alabama had diluted Black voting strength through unfair redistricting. Alabama Public Radio
- ➤ State Rep. Ernie Yarbrough filed a bill in 2025 to stop businesses, hospitals, and licensing boards from treating people unfairly because of their vaccination choices, citing concerns about strict vaccine schedules. Lawmakers will debate the measure in 2026—if passed it will let individuals and their doctors decide on vaccines without fear of retaliation. 1819 News
