  • Waterfront Mission launched Threads of Hope to help homeless and at-risk students by distributing Waterfront Thrift gift cards to families from school districts including Mobile as students head back to school; the campaign will run through the end of August and aims to raise at least $15,000 while also supporting meals, shelter and recovery services at the Mission—helping families regain dignity.  UTV 44
  • Will Glass, a McGill-Toolen Catholic High School student set to start his senior year, died after his body was pulled from Smith Lake Sunday night & an autopsy will determine his cause of death. A prayer service and rosary are scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  WKRG News 5

  • The Mobile County Sheriff's Office investigated the beating death of Diane Marrow Trest, 70, on Saturday in her yard on Beverly Road in Irvington where a mallet was found & her 18 year old granddaughter was arrested on charges of murder & second degree burglary.  1819 News
  • On July 27, Mobile County deputies responded to a report when a 13-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the left thigh while handling a firearm reported stolen from 20-year-old Demetrie Ojay Harriot—who admitted owning the two recovered guns and was arrested for receiving stolen property—prompting an ongoing investigation.  NBC 15
  • Mobile Police arrested a local man for allegedly robbing and pistol-whipping another man early Sunday morning on Conti Street, and officials say the victim with a cut above his left eye was treated at a hospital while his stolen vehicle was later found; the suspect, 28-year-old Tederick Cavalas Mack Jr., is charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree assault + he now is held at Metro Jail.  WKRG News 5

  • Orange Beach denied Gulf Coast Media’s request for body camera footage from a domestic violence 911 call made last year because the city's policy (backed by a state Supreme Court ruling in Something Extra Publishing Inc. v. Mack and Alabama Code 12-21-3.1(b)) does not allow the release of such records.  Gulf Coast Media
  • The city of Mobile launched a new 311 App that lets residents quickly report issues like broken streetlights or potholes + track the progress of their requests in real time. Existing users have their account information transferred automatically and the unified system promises a smoother service experience.  The Mobile Rundown
  • On Friday, construction crews placed the final beam in the new parking deck at Mobile International Airport—marking a major step in relocating the city’s main airport to Brookley Aeroplex. The 465,000-square-foot structure, built to hold more than 1,200 vehicles, will be completed by December so that crews can then focus on the terminal, ramp, and access roads.  The Mobile Rundown
