- ➤ Mobile’s new aquatic center is under construction off Halls Mill Road — it will open in April or May to ease crowded swim meets like last Friday’s event at Bishop State Community College, where 500 athletes competed. The $22.5 million center will include the city’s first Olympic-sized pool, indoor and outdoor pools and diving wells that promise better access for swimmers and coaches. WKRG News 5
- ➤ After storms on July 16 caused water damage along its back wall facing Wolf Bay, the Orange Beach Public Library reopened on July 21 with a section of the children’s room still roped off for drying equipment. - ➤ Aerospace and defense contractor Dynasty Fab will open next month at Chickasaw's port, creating 20 to 30 jobs initially and planning to expand to add hundreds of jobs over the next three to five years. The company chose the port for easier part shipping, will benefit from a rail spur built by year’s end + plans to work with Chickasaw High School to fill roles for welders, machinists and office staff. - ➤ Ramie Renee Freeman, also known as Ramie Renee Marston, was indicted in Mobile Federal Court on charges of bank fraud, wire fraud, aggravated identity theft and making false statements after she allegedly used altered documents to buy a car—and helped file unconsented divorce papers in Baldwin County—causing her filing fee check to bounce. - ➤ Mobile County DA asked the court to shut down South Alabama Medical and Rehab—accused of deceiving accident victims by billing for unprovided doctor services and pushing fee agreements with certain law firms—and names several local attorneys in a 25-page filing. The suit claims the clinic charged a grossly inflated rate for nurse practitioner services, making it nearly impossible for victims to obtain independent legal help. UTV 44
- ➤ The four mayoral candidates will join a live debate on WKRG News 5 on Monday, Aug. 4, from 7-8 p.m. — moderated by Peter Albrecht, the debate features former District Judge Spiro Cheriogotis, State Rep. Barbara Drummond, County Commissioner Connie Hudson and former Police Chief Paul Prine vying for the seat held by Sandy Stimpson, who is not seeking another term. Viewers can watch the debate on TV or online and submit questions before Election Day on Aug. 26 with a runoff planned on Sept. 23 if no candidate wins a majority. WKRG News 5
- ➤ The City of Mobile’s Office of Public Safety has released its 2025 Severe Weather Preparedness Guide— it provides details on long-term mass care shelters, last-resort medical shelters, short-term safer places, heating or cooling shelters, and lists four evacuation zones to help residents prepare for severe weather. - ➤ Governor Kay Ivey has appointed Deborah Denise Tillman as Mobile County district judge effective immediately, replacing Judge Spiro Cheriogotis who resigned to run for mayor. Tillman brings 35 years of legal experience from her work as a prosecutor in Mobile and Florida, in the U.S. Air Force, and as a law professor — a background that will guide her new role in court.
