  • Rotary International District 6880 named Penny Hughey as its new Assistant District Governor for Area 11 — covering four Rotary Clubs in Baldwin County — to support District Governor Bob Cochran. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A car struck a vacant building near Highway 59 and Wilters Street Saturday morning in Baldwin County—five people were injured and four were taken by helicopter while one arrived by ambulance, according to local fire departments.  WKRG News 5

CRIME NEWS

  • A fatal crash on Beverly Road near Argyle Road in Mobile County claimed the life of Irvington bicyclist Jessie E. Forrest, 70, at 10 a.m. July 19 when his bicycle was struck from behind by a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Dwayne A. Mills, 41, who fled the scene but was later arrested by ALEA Highway Patrol—he now faces charges for leaving the scene of an accident and manslaughter.  NBC 15

  • U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures of Mobile and U.S. Rep. Mike Ezell of Mississippi filed the bipartisan Bridge Investment and Modernization Act last week to extend federal bridge funding through 2031 and ease access to funds for state and local projects. The bill could help complete the long-planned I-10 Mobile River Bridge and Bayway Project and was submitted for possible inclusion in the next transportation reauthorization package expected later this year or early 2026.  Gulf Coast Media
  • Mobile City Council will consider a $16.7 million contract from McElhenney Construction to rebuild 17 blocks of busy St. Louis Street by adding new road surfaces, storm drainage, and four-way stops—steps that aim to make travel safer and easier.
