CRIME NEWS

  • A 70-year-old Irvington man was fatally struck when his bicycle was hit from behind by an SUV on Beverly Road near Argyle Road on Saturday, July 19—authorities say the driver, 41-year-old Dwayne Mills, fled the scene before he was arrested and charged with manslaughter and felony leaving the scene.  WKRG News 5

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • At the Widows Creek Fossil Plant near the Tennessee River, 21 million cubic yards of coal ash sit in legacy unlined ponds in contact with groundwater from a reservoir used for drinking & fishing, leading Earthjustice to warn the site may be the dirtiest in the nation. TVA said it complies with federal and state rules and will continue monitoring the site while checking if its additional disposal areas qualify for new regulations.  AL.com

  • Mobile produced an updated anti-violence film—'You Still Have a Choice'—to show ninth graders safe options to handle conflicts without resorting to gun violence. The 19-minute film was developed over nearly three years with local volunteers, school officials, and community partners to guide youth in making better choices.  1819 News
