- ➤ The Alabama Deep-Sea Fishing Rodeo kicked off today at Dauphin Island with a 5 a.m. cannon blast (the cannon was built by grandfather Claude Tuberville in the 1990s) starting a cherished local tradition. - ➤ Mobile Fire-Rescue Department crews responded to a working fire in the 400 block of Donald Street today at 9:59 a.m.—they found heavy smoke in an unoccupied, single-story building and aggressively suppressed the flames by 10:07 a.m. while ensuring the structure was clear of civilians. NBC 15

- ➤ Mobile PD officer Paul Callegari filed a countersuit after the fatal March crash that killed 67-year-old Robert Sayen, alleging that toxicology tests revealed Oxycodone in Sayen’s system and that Progressive Insurance was charged extra for underinsured motorist coverage—he had already been cleared of criminal wrongdoing by a grand jury. - ➤ The Crescent Theater in downtown Mobile closed again this week as rising rents and low attendance forced it to shut its doors.
