- ➤ Mobile resident Ileana Santana, 66, and her 5-year-old granddaughter Mila were found dead Tuesday after Texas floods swept family members from a riverside cabin in Kerrville, and the bodies of Eddie Santana Sr, 69, and Camille Santana, 38, were recovered on July 11 and July 8 respectively, letting the family finally lay everyone to rest. - ➤ Federal law enforcement from Homeland Security Investigations, state police and local authorities executed search warrants at several Alabama locations on July 15, including a raid on the El Jefe Mexican restaurant near Auburn-Opelika Mall, as part of an ongoing investigation into multiple federal crimes—public safety was not threatened. - ➤ Amtrak will launch Mardi Gras Service on Aug. 18 with a 3.5-hour trip from Mobile to New Orleans—departing Mobile at 6:30 a.m. Federal funds are being used for $178 million in rail upgrades that are still under construction—officials say the delays will not derail the schedule. AL.com

- ➤ Alabama state troopers and local officers are increasing their presence on interstates through Operation Southern Slow Down— a joint campaign with officers from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee— to curb speeding and aggressive driving during the busy summer travel season.
