- ➤ In Summerdale, retired Delta man Randy Farris is running for mayor in the Aug. 26 election after the town has not held a contested mayoral race in at least 17 years — he said he would bring term limits and live video streaming of council meetings to help residents follow local government. Farris, who has served as a bus driver for Baldwin County Public Schools and made stops in every neighborhood, is challenging longtime mayor David Wilson as the town seeks controlled, steady growth. Shomari Figures from Mobile co-sponsored a bipartisan bill introduced Thursday that will set a national rule to protect college athletes if they earn money from their name, image and likeness. - ➤ Alabama Public Television warned it will lose about $3 million a year—about 13% of its budget—and be forced to cut programs if the Senate approves a recissions package next week. 1819 News
- ➤ The new terminal at downtown Mobile will have airlines like Delta, United and American shift from the regional airport in fall with first flights expected in November. Officials will rebid the terminal’s interior work—covering flooring and drywall—to control a budget that has grown from $381 million to over $400 million. NBC 15
