COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Foley’s historic N3N biplane will fly in the Veterans Flight at the Blue Angels Air Show at Pensacola International Airport on July 11 and 12 to honor veterans from World War II, the Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. The 83-year-old aircraft was acquired in 2024 — and it will be featured in a municipal display that marks Foley’s designation as an American World War II Heritage City — while educating locals about the city's rich naval training history.  Gulf Coast Media
  • At Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Mobile, parishioners prayed for Eddie Santana-Negron and Ileana Santana, who went missing during last week's flood in Texas, as Fr. Pat Arensberg added them to the prayer petition during Wednesday mass. The church also offers mental health resources through Catholic Social Services to support those coping with the tragedy.  WKRG News 5

CULTURE NEWS

  • Culture Fest 2025 will be held Saturday, July 26th from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Africatown Heritage House, Mobile County Training School, and Robert Hope Community Center—featuring live music, African drumming, dance classes, storytelling, crafts, food trucks, and free cool pops to honor Mobile’s Black heritage.  UTV 44

ECONOMY NEWS

  • German company Butting announced a 61 million dollar investment—its new U.S. production facility in Loxley will create 100 good paying jobs and start with a temporary facility by October before the full plant is ready by the end of 2026. Local support from Baldwin County and strong industry ties helped secure the decision to invest here.  NBC 15
  • Tourism officials say about 1,000 new rental units have been added to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach in the past 18 months as more people visit this summer—local beach safety is boosted by a phone APP sending text messages with surf updates, though officials worry that cuts at NOAA may delay key alerts.  Alabama Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the city fixed a deep sinkhole near the Loop on Airport Blvd and on Wednesday began repairs on a car-sized pothole in front of Panda Express — the repair removed an immediate hazard though new pavement has not yet been laid. The city is still working on a deeper sinkhole on Dauphinwood Lane between Dauphin St and Florida St — a driver was towed from the spot.  NBC 15
  • Tuesday night, four mayoral candidates met in Mobile to discuss crime and education as they seek to replace Sandy Stimpson. The forum held added urgency with municipal elections (seven weeks away) underscoring the decision (as key issues were debated).  Lagniappe Daily
  • Municipal election voters set to vote at Holy Cross Lutheran Church were reassigned to vote at Dauphin Way Baptist Church at 3661 Dauphin St due to traffic safety concerns and space limitations—new postcards with the updated location were mailed to affected residents.  City of Mobile
