- ➤ Former deputy David Frederickson, who retired in 2003 after serving for decades, was arrested on July 7 on five counts each of unlawful possession and dissemination of child pornography after an investigation by the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office began in May — Mobile authorities say he will face full charges. - ➤ Bonnie Koloszar, a 53-year-old woman from Bay Minette last seen at the Star Motel in Prichard after being dropped off by her boyfriend's daughter, was reported missing by her boyfriend Edward Porter and law enforcement is asking anyone with information to come forward. UTV 44
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Tuesday night, Mobile mayoral candidates — Connie Hudson, Sprio Cheriogotis, Paul Prine and Barbara Drummond — met voters at New Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church on Old Shell Road to discuss issues such as youth violence, neighborhood blight, city infrastructure, affordable housing and job training. Several voters expressed a need for more detailed plans — many expecting future forums to reveal specific visions for the city — while the Mobile Municipal election will be held on Tuesday, August 26. - ➤ City officials released the Popular Annual Financial Report for 2024 which showed that $134.7 million was spent on public safety — an $8.1 million increase from 2023. The report also noted that $112.6 million went to capital outlay and nearly $53 million to enterprise projects while city debts totaled about $538 million. WKRG News 5
- ➤ Governor Ivey named corrections deputy Hal Nash as the new head of the state parole board — his appointment takes effect immediately to replace outgoing chair Leigh Gwathney — and he was chosen from five candidates offered by lawmakers to bring a strong law enforcement view to the board.
