- ➤ Emma Terry from Miss Hoover was crowned Miss Alabama 2025 at Samford University's Wright Center Saturday evening. The 22-year-old Leeds native, who earned her master's from UAB, won the evening gown and talent preliminaries and led her ALS awareness effort in honor of her grandfather as she competed against 42 women. 1819 News

- ➤ Four hemp companies filed a lawsuit in Montgomery County Circuit Court on Friday to block enforcement of HB445 — a law that will ban smokable hemp and synthetically made THC products starting July 1 — arguing that the state law conflicts with the federal farm bill and turns lawful business owners into criminals. The suit names Attorney General Steve Marshall and Gov. Kay Ivey while supporting other parts of the law, such as product labeling requirements. AL.com
- ➤ A Navy fleet replenishment oiler in Mobile that was once named for activist Harvey Milk has been renamed USNS Oscar V. Peterson after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the change Friday morning, with the new name honoring a Medal of Honor recipient wounded in World War II (the ship is undergoing maintenance at Alabama Shipyard). - ➤ Mobile and Baldwin Counties joined a federal immigration enforcement program that lets local officers check if people are here legally—Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch said he signed the 287G agreement on June 4 and that deputies have already been sending immigrants to a facility in Mississippi to support ICE operations. The new program will have local deputies act as support during federal enforcement work. AL.com
- ➤ Two Mobile companies received federal contracts from the Department of Homeland Security to provide emergency detention services for ICE, which include temporary tents and facilities (the contracts began on May 17 and run until May 16, 2027). Local community members have raised concerns over the companies' involvement as a representative declined to comment. AL.com
