  • The Mobile Parks and Recreation Department will host dozens of family-friendly events in our parks throughout July to celebrate National Parks and Recreation Month—this celebration marks the 40th anniversary for parks employees and will feature activities including tennis clinics, a cycling race at Langan Park, and dive-in movies at Hillsdale Community Center Pool.  City of Mobile

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Authorities searched for the pilot of a small plane that crashed into a field in Baldwin County on Friday at 10 a.m. in Elberta off Gardner Road — law enforcement and emergency crews responded but did not locate the pilot.  1819 News

CRIME NEWS

  • The Alabama Securities Commission has filed complaints to seize over $125,000 in crypto from two victims in Baldwin and Etowah counties who were tricked by fraudsters on social apps—agents say the funds are hard to recover due to rapid transfers and overseas movements.  Gulf Coast Media
  • Mobile Police arrested 21 individuals after a three-month narcotics investigation in Fourth Precinct with raids on June 24th and 25th using SWAT and K9 units — the operation included the arrest of Jamichael Abrams, who sold drugs from a home near Blessed Beginnings Child Development Center, and Brandon Osburn at King of Cutz — authorities confirmed.  NBC 15

CULTURE NEWS

  • Paul Brueske— a graduate student at the University of South Alabama and longtime Civil War scholar—will present his new book on the 1865 siege of Spanish Fort and the Mobile Campaign today at 1:00 p.m. at Confederate Memorial Park in Marbury, where he will explain how the two-week siege played a key role in ending the Civil War.  1819 News

  • Beginning Tuesday, July 1, Mobile’s Neighborhood Development Department will accept applications for its Critical Repair Program to help homeowners make essential repairs—applications are available in person at the Levon C. Manzie Neighborhood Resource Center on 110 N. Lafayette St. starting at 8 a.m., and applicants must meet income guidelines and show valid proof of residency.  City of Mobile
  • Mobile produced a new youth violence prevention film for its 'You Still Have a Choice' program to show middle schoolers the serious risks of violent actions—Friday’s filming featured realistic fight scenes and blanks mimicking gunfire. The film was developed with input from students and a child psychologist— and it will be released online next month while a local film shadow program gives young people first-hand experience.  NBC 15
  • Connie Hudson led a Mobile mayoral poll that ended yesterday—she received 36% of 4410 votes and maintained her lead among the four candidates. Spiro Cheriogotis got 31%—Paul Prine 23% and Barbara Drummond 9% of the votes.  UTV 44
