COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Amateur radio operators will practice emergency communication setups at Silver Creek Boy Scout Camp on June 28-29 as they test equipment for disaster response during hurricane season. The Baldwin County Amateur Radio Club will host the event with public viewing starting Saturday at noon — visitors can watch hams set up temporary antennas and radios while enjoying cold drinks.  Gulf Coast Media

CRIME NEWS

  • Decareus Mallory Andrews, 28, the suspect in the May 23 shooting death of Dyrontae Booker at a Bay Minette house party, was arrested Thursday morning at a Mobile house - he now faces murder charges and firearm possession restrictions.  WKRG News 5
  • Joseph Jones — a 36-year-old homeless man — led Mobile police on a skid-steer chase along I-10 on January 30 after he fled a traffic stop; he was shot during the pursuit, remains hospitalized, and will face arraignment and a preliminary hearing on August 21 after his court date was reset due to his ongoing injuries.  AL.com
  • Mobile Police arrested James Marshall, 46, on Tuesday after he allegedly fatally stabbed Reginald Allen, 47 following an altercation early Monday morning on the 300 block of Gaston Street — officers responded at about 4:30 a.m.  AL.com
  • Mobile police arrested 19-year-old King Williams from Chickasaw and charged him with first-degree robbery and murder after officers answered a May 20 call at Woodland Avenue near Metals USA where they found 72-year-old Cedric Tinsley shot to death+his arrest was made Wednesday.  WKRG News 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Sen. April Weaver of Brierfield pre-filed a bill for the 2026 session that will ban psychoactive THC hemp products by removing their exemption from controlled substances and requiring that only nonpsychoactive cannabinoids be sold in certified pharmacies — she said the measure comes after many constituents shared concerns about the dangers these drugs pose to families.  1819 News

  • Mobile Sports Authority today announced three sports events for July and August. On July 12 at Mobile County Sportsplex, the 5v5 Soccer Tournament for players 8 and older will be held to determine national championship qualifiers, on July 19 the 14th Annual Dauphin Street Vault will be hosted in downtown Mobile — and on August 2 the Southern Super Late Model Series is scheduled at Mobile International Speedway.  UTV 44
