  • Mobile police responded to a stabbing on Gaston Street around 4:30 a.m. on June 23 that left Reginald Allen (47) dead and arrested James Marshall (46) on Wednesday in connection with the incident.  WKRG News 5

  • Ida Lee, a Mobile southern soul singer (she showcased her new song 'Mobtown Boogie' and a line dance during an interview with Shamonee Baker on WKRG yesterday) has released the upbeat track (available for free download on Apple Music) for summer cookouts.  WKRG News 5

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fatou Bain, an immigrant from Senegal who joined the Boys and Girls Clubs of South Alabama at age six, graduated top of her class last May with a 4.5 GPA—she now studies mechanical engineering at the University of South Alabama and works as a program assistant helping other kids succeed.  WKRG News 5

  • At a press conference at Government Plaza—where they announced their decision—the former mayoral candidates Lawrence Battiste and Jermaine Burrell suspended their campaigns and endorsed State Rep. Barbara Drummond, saying her leadership will bring a new, united vision to Mobile.  UTV 44
  • A poll asks Mobile voters which mayoral candidate they will support as four candidates remain in the race+ former mayoral candidates Lawrence Battiste and Jermaine Burrell have endorsed Barbara Drummond.   • Councilman William Carroll broke ground on the first home in the Campground neighborhood yesterday at 10 a.m. at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church as part of Mobile’s Housing Improvement Plan that is fully funded by the City and will build 35 new homes—expanding affordable homeownership for local families.  NBC 15

  • Linebacker Shadarius Toodle from Cottage Hill Christian Academy flipped his commitment from Auburn to Georgia because he believed Kirby Smart’s program would better prepare him for an NFL career. He said he received mixed reactions from fans but welcomed support from Georgia — a decision that marks a major change for Mobile’s local talent.  AL.com
