CRIME NEWS

  • After a shooting on June 1 during a kids’ dance recital that left a man dead, Saenger Theatre updated its policies on June 10 to require a clear bag no larger than 12x12x8 inches—screening all guests with metal detectors and limiting ticket sales to Ticketmaster while not allowing re-entry.  WKRG News 5
  • A Mobile police officer was injured by a man wielding a machete at Murphy USA on Wednesday evening — officers were called at about 11:19 p.m. when the suspect was on the building roof, and the injured officer was taken to a hospital for minor injuries while the man received evaluation at a local hospital.  WKRG News 5

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Sen. Katie Britt said during a Washington hearing that at least 70% of dredge material must be used on projects to protect Mobile’s port and its natural resources + including beach nourishment and wetland creation. • Mobile officials introduced HB20 yesterday by State Rep. Matt Simpson which would add a 22nd factor to capital murder law by including killings that knowingly create a great risk of death — a measure aimed at deterring public shootings like the fatal Saenger Theatre incident on June 1.
