Downtown’s Pride Month artwalk kicks off today as singer Alexia Jayy performs at Cathedral Square at 6:30 p.m. The event offers vendor markets, a kids zone, a second-line parade & a drag show, with additional Pride activities planned at B-Bob’s and nearby venues.

Two Baldwin County researchers, Emma Rhodes and Kyle Shepard, have secured a $295,000 grant to expand HumTrack—a project using 0.06-gram BlūMorpho transmitters to capture hummingbird migration data along the Gulf Coast.

Their work began in Fort Morgan and will deploy over 600 transmitters by the end of 2026.

The RESTORE Council approved over $403 million for Gulf Coast restoration projects on June 10, including $87 million for Alabama to restore wetlands in Mobile Bay and dunes on Dauphin Island (efforts shown to boost local water quality).

Alabama officials said project implementation will begin immediately.

Alabama DHR and the state education department will automatically issue $120 SUN Bucks to each eligible school-aged child this summer to help low-income families buy groceries.

Families not automatically enrolled must apply to receive the benefit.
