CRIME NEWS

  • A fatal shooting at Mobile's Saenger Theatre on Sunday killed 27-year-old Carl Williams III during a dance recital with suspect Marcus Sanders charged with capital murder—city officials blaming state policies while lawmaker Shane Stringer defended the permitless carry law.  AL.com
  • Marcus Sanders was charged with capital murder for fatally shooting Carl Williams III during a child dance recital at Saenger Theatre in Mobile—prosecutors noted that Williams’ two young daughters were present and rejected his attorney’s self-defense claim.  AL.com
  • A 2-year-old child was shot in the face while sleeping with their parents in Prichard at 1:02 a.m. on Wednesday—Mobile County Sheriff’s Office detectives have interviewed witnesses and the parents but have made no arrests.  AL.com
  • On Tuesday, Mobile County DA Keith Blackwood upgraded the charge against Marcus Sanders to capital murder for allegedly killing 27-year-old Carl Williams III at Saenger Theater during a children’s dance recital—if convicted, Sanders will face life in prison without parole or the death penalty, and he turned himself in after the incident, which also led to an assault charge for injuring a bystander.  1819 News

  • U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville raised over $3 million in the first week of his 2026 gubernatorial campaign, with his finance report showing $3,051,735.91 in cash on hand and more than $2 million raised in the first 24 hours. His fundraising follows his recent campaign launch and comes as Governor Kay Ivey is term-limited—further campaign plans are expected to be announced.  1819 News

  • Mobile is preparing for the 2025 Gulf Coast Challenge—a three-day HBCU event with community activities and sports running from October 2 to 4—in which the highlight is a football game between Jackson State and Alabama A&M.
