  • Leroy softball coach Tabitha Baggett led her team to eight state tournaments while battling stage-4 breast cancer and died last year on Thursday when her health worsened after a craniotomy—funeral details will be announced on Friday.  The Call News

CRIME NEWS

  • A Mobile businesswoman Kenneshia Davis was sentenced in federal court for filing fraudulent tax returns after underreporting her income by more than $2 million between 2015 and 2017 — she received a sentence of one year and one day in prison and a $67,975 restitution order — her cousin Brandy Lynn Davis will be sentenced on July 10 after pleading guilty.  WKRG News 5
  • Mobile police tried to stop a stolen car on Wednesday at 8:39 p.m. and chased its driver on foot until they caught 40-year-old Richard Terry – charged with retail theft, receiving stolen property, drug paraphernalia and attempting to elude – whose bond hearing is set for today.  WKRG News 5

  • Jonathan Young, a Survivor veteran from Gulf Shores who finished fourth in 2022, is set to return on Survivor’s all-star 50th season premiering in Spring 2026 — joining a cast chosen by fan votes that includes several returning competitors.  AL.com
  • City of Mobile will host its 2025 Juneteenth Celebration on Thursday, June 19 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Mardi Gras Park. The event offers live music and kids' activities plus free food, and vendors must register by June 12.  UTV 44

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The EPA awarded $261,000 to Alabama to help monitor coastal beach water quality and protect swimmers from harmful bacteria + the funds, part of a broader $9.7 million BEACH Act package, will support monitoring along the Gulf Coast as summer tourism increases.  Gulf Coast Media

  • Prodisee Pantry said proposed federal budget cuts to SNAP and Medicaid funding—estimated at $300 billion and $880 billion over the next decade—could raise food insecurity in Baldwin County as more families seek help amid rising costs.  Gulf Coast Media
  • Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall announced he would run for the U.S. Senate seat, replacing Tommy Tuberville who is running for governor. Marshall (in his second full term and not eligible for another) said his record as attorney general shows his commitment to conservative values.  AL.com
